Women’s health

Menstrual health

Periods can cause a range of problems throughout a woman’s life with certain concerns more prevalent at different ages. Whether you’re experiencing your period for the first time or are transitioning into the pre or post-menopausal years, we offer a comprehensive and professional medical service that is aimed at tailoring a solution to your specific condition and requirements.

Breast checks

We can help with any concerns regarding breast lumps, nipple discharge or changes to your breasts. It is important to understand what is ‘normal’ when it comes to the look and feel of your breasts. We can help with any concerns regarding breast lumps, nipple discharge or other changes to your breasts.

Breastfeeding advice

We are more than happy to support you through feeding problems experienced during your postnatal period.

Family history of breast disease

There are hereditary genes associated with a high incidence of breast cancer. If you have a family history of breast cancer, please book in to discuss this with one of our doctors. In most instances it is unlikely to be a genetic cause but with strong family history of breast disease testing may be required. We can provide referrals to genetic counsellors and breast specialists for further discussion if required.

Concern over finding a breast lump

In the situation where you have detected a lump or thickening, we can perform a physical examination and arrange timely investigations with appropriate referrals. Many lumps are benign (not cancer), but it is important to obtain an accurate diagnosis as soon as possible to ensure a cancer is not missed.

Menopause can occur prematurely, at the expected age (48-52) or due to treatment / surgery. The most common change at menopause is an alteration in the pattern of your periods, with eventual cessation of all periods. Whilst this can be a simple transition, some women experience difficulties such as excessively heavy bleeding and more frequent bleeding. This may need medical intervention to prevent other problems such as iron deficiency anaemia.

Men’s health

Some of our doctors have a special interest in men’s health. Here are some of the medical conditions we cover at the practice:

Teenage health

The teenage years can be challenging for both teens and their parents. There are issues with self-esteem and self-confidence leading to dieting and associated malnourishment, eating disorders, including anorexia and bulimia nervosa, obesity and steroid use (to build muscle mass). We have experienced doctors who are sensitive to the needs of teens during this critical time of life.

Services also cover:

  • Dealing with hormonal difficulties for teenage girls
  • Mental health issues common to teenagers
  • Infectious diseases
  • Early pregnancy and childbirth
  • Issues with alcohol and drugs
  • Nutrition and nutrient deficiencies

Senior health

Whilst prevention of disease and illness is optimal care, it is an unfortunate fact of life that as we age so do our bodies. It is important that older patients have regular check-ups to monitor medications, chronic illness and those niggling aches and pains. We offer continuity of care to our ageing patients both in the surgery and with regular visits to nursing homes.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health

We understand and respect that not all patients have the same needs and that there are specific areas of support required when it comes to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health. Our doctors provide culturally appropriate advice and care for our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients.
