Dr Carolyn Hannah

MBBS, FRACGP, B.Speech Path

Carolyn grew up in Mackay, North Queensland on a small acreage amongst the sugar cane fields, growing mangoes. She studied Speech Pathology at the University of Queensland and worked in Mackay hospital as a speech therapist for two years before deciding to change career. She completed her medical degree at Griffith University, Gold Coast and graduated with honours.

Carolyn came to the Northern Rivers in 2013 and worked in Lismore, Byron Bay and Ballina prior to coming to beautiful Lennox Head.

She initially thought Emergency Medicine was for her and worked in Lismore Base Emergency department, where she gained experience in critical care. She preferred however to be able follow up her patients and the lack of continuity of care was a drawback, so switched to General Practice training. Carolyn completed her GP training in the Northern Rivers and also took some time out to have her two children.

Carolyn loves the variety of work that presents in a family-focused GP clinic. Her strengths are in women’s health and antenatal care and she enjoys seeing the whole family. As a young parent, she is comfortable with little people and their problems, and is rigorous when it comes to practising evidence-based medicine.

Carolyn lives with her husband (also a GP) and young family near Bangalow. She is a keen netballer and has represented Ballina in regional competitions.
