Dr Frank Schultheiss

MBBS, FRACGP, Graduate Diploma in Alcohol and Drug Studies, FPNSW

“I’ve always liked rural areas and I love living on a beach, with no traffic. As a GP, you also learn more and do more in rural areas. You have a better connection to the local population as you are part of the community”.

Frank grew up in the southwest of Germany, in the leafy vineyards of the Palatinate area. During civil service, he trained as a paramedic and educator for first-aid courses and it was during this time, that he discovered a passion for medicine.

Because of his connection to the ocean and a love of surfing and windsurfing, Frank moved to the Baltic Sea City of Lübeck in Germany’s north to study medicine. In 1991, as a first-year medical student and backpacker, he passed through Lennox Head in his Holden Kingswood station wagon and fell in love with the town. After a couple of years of medical training in Spain, Scotland and Ireland, Frank returned to Australia in 2003 and has been living the dream ever since.

Frank joined the North Coast Vocational GP training program in 2011 and obtained his Fellowship with Royal Australian College of GPs in 2014. He is also an examiner for the RACGP since 2016.

Frank has worked the full gamut of specialties and settings and loves the diversity and flexibility of general practice.

He loves the Australian lifestyle and climate and in 2012, when his partner, a fellow German and paediatrician, completed her training, they moved to Lennox Head.

Frank’s first interest and priority is his family. He also enjoys tennis, surfing, cycling and bushwalking. He speaks Spanish and loves practicing it with the many Spanish-speaking people of the area.
