Dr Frank Schultheiss

Frank first arrived in Lennox Head in the early nineties as a backpacking medical student, travelling around Australia in an old Holden Kingswood station wagon.

He fell in love with Lennox and the Northern Rivers, returned to Australia permanently in 2003 and has been living the dream here ever since. Over the years Frank has worked across just about every corner of medicine — numerous hospital specialties, rural and Aboriginal health, and even a busy walk-in clinic in Kings Cross — before settling into General Practice in Lennox Head in 2011.

Today, Frank works as a GP Allergist and is currently completing the inaugural Associateship of Clinical Allergy (ACA) — an intensive two-year, part-time, case-based clinical allergy program run by the National Allergy Council in collaboration with ASCIA. Frank feels very privileged to have been selected as one of just 10 GPs and paediatricians from rural, regional and underserved communities for this Australian Pilot program. Frank has also presented at international allergy conferences.

While hay fever and house dust mite allergy are among the most common problems Frank sees, he sees both children and adults with a broad range of allergic conditions, including food allergy, anaphylaxis, asthma and environmental allergies, eczema, urticaria and angioedema, suspected drug allergy, insect and tick allergy, as well as patients considering allergen immunotherapy. Our warm, humid subtropical climate makes house dust mite allergy particularly important locally.

Persistent hay fever can significantly affect sleep, concentration, school attendance and quality of life, and longstanding nasal obstruction and mouth breathing in children may also affect normal dental and facial development. Frank provides comprehensive allergy assessment, including skin-prick testing where appropriate, and discusses environmental measures, medical treatment and allergen immunotherapy where indicated.

To better concentrate on allergy Frank, has closed his books for new general practice patients and sees new patients for allergy issues only. Initial allergy consultations take approximately one hour and incur a $200 gap fee.
